POSITION SUMMARY

Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples following standardized procedures.  Accurately and effectively communicates results to physicians thereby aiding in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states.  Resolves problems and interprets results with regard to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.  Maintains equipment. Performs and interprets lab QC.  Trains new personnel in procedures, equipment methodologies, QC and guest relations. Helps monitor inventory. Collects laboratory specimens on patients of all ages when required. Performs other related duties assigned or deemed necessary by the Laboratory Director.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Licenses and Certification:  AMT or ASCP. 

 

Education, Vocational Training, and Experience:  Bachelor of Science in Medical technology, Chemistry or Biology; OR documented training such as USAF; OR qualified as a Medical Technologist according to CLIA '88 rules and regulations  

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to collect lab specimens on patients of all ages using a variety of approved techniques.

Basic computer and clinical laboratory knowledge.

Ability to work independently as a laboratory generalist.

Ability to interpret laboratory data and correlate patient results with diagnoses as required

Ability to perform venipuncture on patients of all ages.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. 

Ability to handle multiple assignments, balance priorities and made sound decisions.

Ability to work with other members of the healthcare team to meet patient needs. 

 

Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, employees, supervisor and other hospital employees.
