POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the overall flow of patients into the operating room suite and for the accurate verification of all preoperative requirements for patients ranging in age from pediatric to geriatric.  Begins intravenous lines, gives meds, and seeks any and all preoperative nursing interventions that may be necessary for the timely and safe provision of the surgical procedure.  Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures and standards.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Licenses and Certification:  Current TexasRegistered Nurse license and BLS required.

Education, Vocational Training, and Experience:  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.  Two (2) years experience in an acute healthcare facility.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to write concise, legible documentation in patient's medical record.

Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.

Rhythm recognition. 

Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.

Knowledge of safe use of various equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to with other members of the healthcare team to meet patient needs. 

Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, employees, supervisor and other hospital employees.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds.  Ability to stand on non-carpeted, composite surfaces for extended periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl, reach, use fine finger movement, speak and hear.  Ability to walk long distances on a regular basis.
