A surgical scrub technician is completely proficient in scrubbing all operating room procedures, and further possesses the capability to prioritize and organize their workload as delegated by their manager/supervisor. Assists the surgical team in performing surgical procedures by functioning in the scrub role.  Responsible for maintaining sterile fields, passing instruments, and preparation of supplies and equipment.  Scrub Tech also must demonstrate proficiency in the provision of quality patient care and efficient assistance to surgeons. The Texas General Hospital staff member can expect to care for adult patients, including the older adult through geriatric, and pediatric patients from newborn through adolescence.


  • Graduate of a school of surgical technology required. 
  • Three years previous experience preferred. 
  • Must have working knowledge of surgical assistant duties. 
  • Must have thorough knowledge of aseptic and sterile technique, and be a role model for others.
  • Clinically proficient in surgical tech duties concerning the developmental needs of adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) required
  • Bariatric experience a plus.
  • Must possess working knowledge of departmental policies & procedures, and be able to precept others.



Licenses and Certification:  BLS required, ACLS preferred.  Certified as CORT, CST or licensed as LVN. 

Education, Vocational Training, and Experience:  Minimum three years surgical experience preferred.



Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. 

Ability to work with other members of the healthcare team to meet patient needs. 

Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, employees, supervisor and other hospital employees;



Lifting objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds.  Ability to stand on non-carpeted, composite surfaces for extended periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl, reach, use fine finger movement, speak and hear.  Ability to walk long distances on a regular basis.
