Position Summary:

A Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analysis of patient specimens for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease for all patient populations following standardized procedures. Helps ensure compliance with patient care and quality control standards, and is part of performance improvement activities within the department. Provides and maintains efficient and effective laboratory operations as well as maintaining the instrumentation.


Position Requirements:

Licenses and Certification: Certification though AMT or ASCP is required. 

Education, Vocational Training and Experience: Associate's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical terminology from an accredited college or university. Courses in computer science or experience with Hospital and Laboratory information systems are desirable. 

Skills and Abilities: 

- Ability to collect lab specimens on patients of all ages using a variety of approved techniques.

- Basic computer and clinical laboratory knowledge.

- Ability to work independently as a Laboratory Generalist.

- Ability to interpret laboratory data and correlate patient results with diagnoses as required. 

- Ability to perform venipuncture on patients of all ages.

- Ability to communicate in effectively in english, both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to handle multiple assignments , balance priorities and make sound decisions.

- Ability to work with other members of the healthcare team to meet patient needs. 

-Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, employees, supervisor and other hospital employees.
